The Black Stars have moved within touching distance from qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be staged in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Having thrashed Central African Republic (CAR) 5-0 at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes in Morocco, Ghana are on the verge of securing their fifth Work Cup appearance.
Four second half goals sealed a commanding victory as the Stars extend their lead at the summit of Group I with three points.
Ghana started the game slowly but gradually took complete control, dominating possession and nullifying any threat from the home side. However they were only able to get one goal past their opponents after defender Mohammed Salisu rose highest to head home Mohammed Kudus’s perfectly executed corner kick with a powerful header to open the scoring just after 20 minutes of proceedings.
The momentum continued into the second instalment and just few minutes after the restart Thomas Partey doubled the lead, Jordan Ayew put him through and with a remarkable composure the Villareal midfielder finished from close range.
The melee ensued and midway through the second half Alexander Dziku met Jordan Ayew’s precise corner and headed home Ghana’s third goal and three minutes later the Leicester forward registered his name in the scoresheet with a half volley to make it four.
Substitute Kamaldeen Sulemana put the cherry on top with a cool finish in the dying embers of the contest to open his first international account after a stunning assist from Joseph Paintsil.
The ruthless victory means Ghana is firmly in control of Group I, with only one game left to play – a home showdown against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
