The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organize a testimonial match in honour of legendary Ghanaian striker and former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, to celebrate his illustrious career and immense contribution to Ghanaian football.
In a statement the FA, confirmed they are working with the former Sunderland striker to provide further details of the event in due course.
“The testimonial will serve as a befitting tribute to a player whose name has become synonymous with Ghana’s football history”, the statement read.
“Asamoah Gyan, affectionately known as “Baby Jet,” holds the enviable record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars. He is also Africa’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, having scored six goals across three tournaments: Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014”, it added.
Asamoah Gyan’s legendary status is unquestionable and worthy of every ounce of celebration. His international career is as remarkably impressive as his club career. The former Black Star forward globetrotted across several continents before coming back home to end it all in style.
His journey began in Ghana with Liberty Professionals before moving abroad to join Udinese in Italy. He later had loan stints at Modena, before featuring for Rennes in France and Sunderland in the English Premier League.
The ‘Baby Jet’ shocking move to Al Ain and later Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates saw him become a household name in the United Arab Emirates. He also starred for Shanghai SIPG in China and Kayserispor in Turkey and ended his professional club career with Legon Cities FC in Ghana before hanging his boots.
