WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS: Otoo Addo Becomes First Ghanaian to Qualify Ghana Twice

The Ghana Black Stars have officially qualified to the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars will be making their fifth World Cup appearance in the last six editions — Ghana became the fifth African nation to book their spot for next year’s tournament following Sunday’s victory over Comoros.

Having led Ghana to a successful qualification, the Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has made history by becoming the first coach to qualify the West African nation to the FIFA mundial on two different occasions.

The former talent and interim first team assistant coach for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, spearheaded Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where the Black Stars failed to make a mark and were crashed out of the competition in the group stages. He was subsequently sacked.

His predecessor Chris Hughton started the qualifying campaign but failed to impress the Football Association before Otto Addo was reappointed to see Ghana through the qualification and he successfully delivered the job without a single defeat.

He has become the first coach to take Ghana to two consecutive World Cups, the first Ghanaian to ever qualify Ghana twice and also the first former player to guide the Black Stars there — twice. Historic!
